Visakhapatnam authorities are aiming to build up 15 TMC of water in the Yeleru reservoir by the end of October 2026, as part of preparations to ensure enough drinking water for the city through the coming months.

💦 Nearly 60% of Vizag's water supply currently depends on the Yeleru system. However, water levels in other rain-fed sources such as Raiwada, Meghadrigedda and Tatipudi have been affected by deficient rainfall.

🚧 Desilting of the Yeleru Canal is around 25–30% complete. Once the work is completed, officials expect the canal's carrying capacity to increase to around 600 cusecs.

🌊 Water is planned to be brought through the Purushothapatnam scheme to help raise Yeleru storage to 15 TMC. Officials estimate Vizag will require about 6.2 TMC through June 2027, making the planned storage an important buffer for the city.
