🦈 Whale Shark Spotted Near Rushikonda!

1 min read

A whale shark was reportedly spotted in the sea near Rushikonda, surprising people travelling by boat. A video showing its fin moving through the water, with Vizag’s coastline in the background, is being shared online. 🌊

Despite its name, a whale shark is not a whale. It is the world’s largest fishĀ and can grow beyond 12 metresĀ in length! šŸ“

These gentle giants mainly eat plankton, tiny fish and other small marine organisms. They are generally harmless to humans and move calmly through warm tropical waters. 🐟

People should still maintain a safe distance and avoid chasing, touching or surrounding them with boats. 🚤

Vizag recorded another confirmed whale shark sighting near Chinna Rushikonda in January 2026, when divers observed an estimated 10-metre-long whale sharkĀ close to the coast. The endangered species receives the highest level of legal protection in India. šŸ›”ļø
