Visakhapatnam Railway Station has completed 130 years since its beginnings in 1896. To mark the occasion, the railways held a Station Mahotsav celebrating its journey from the Waltair era to one of the eastern coast’s busiest stations.

Visitors saw a heritage exhibition featuring old photographs, railway artefacts and memories from the station’s past. A commemorative coffee-table book was also released.

Today, the station handles around 65,000 passengers and nearly 200 trains a day, according to the railway officials quoted in the report. Plans for its redevelopment include expanding it to 14 platforms.
