đź’§ Vizag Families Are Drilling Deeper for Water

Aug 27
1 min read

Vizag is seeing a noticeable drop in groundwater levels, especially in areas like MVP Colony, Yendada, Seethammadhara, Madhurawada, Gajuwaka and Gopalapatnam. Some borewells are producing less water or drying up.

🌧️ One major reason is the shortfall in rainfall. Between June 1 and August 26, Vizag received about 56% less rain than normal.

Here’s the simple science:

Less rain → less water seeps into the soil → groundwater recharge falls → borewell levels drop. 💧

And when more water is pumped out than naturally goes back underground, the level falls even further.

The numbers are concerning:

💧 Groundwater level: ~11.5 metres below ground level

📉 Drop from last year: ~3.6 metres

📉 Drop since November 2025: ~7.13 metres

Some families are now spending ₹1–2 lakh to drill deeper borewells.

So the solution isn't only getting more water.

We also need to help rainwater go into the ground. 🌧️🌱
