💧 Visakhapatnam Civil Society Requests Pause on New AI Data Centre Approvals

Citizen groups have asked the government to temporarily stop granting new approvals for large AI data-centre projects around Vizag. 🖥️⏸️

The demand was raised during a public convention organised by Green Visakha at the Alluri Sitarama Raju Vignana Kendram in Dabagardens. 🏛️

Participants expressed concerns about the land, electricity and water these facilities may require. 🌳⚡💧 They sought an independent assessment considering Vizag’s future drinking-water needs, population growth, irrigation and industrial demand.

The convention adopted a six-point declaration seeking greater transparency, environmental responsibility and public consultation before additional projects receive approval. 📋🗣️

A moratorium means a temporary pause, not permanent cancellation. ⏳ This is currently a demand from citizen groups; the government has not announced that the projects are being stopped.
