Aug 27
1 min read

Just a short drive from Vizag’s coast, Bavikonda takes you back nearly 2,000 years. Archaeologists have found stupas, monasteries, prayer halls, wells and ancient artefacts here.

🕰️ Bavikonda?

Bavikonda means Hill of Wells, named after the ancient water structures found on the hill. It was once a place where Buddhist monks lived, studied and meditated.

The site also gives us a glimpse into how people managed water and built communities centuries ago.

đźš— How to Reach

📍 Around 15–16 km from central Vizag🚗 Accessible via the Vizag–Bheemili Beach Road⏰ Visiting hours: 9 AM–5 PM

🌅 Best Time

Visit early morning or around 4 PM to avoid the afternoon heat. The softer light also makes the ancient ruins and surrounding hills much more scenic.

📸 What to See

Look out for the ancient stupas, brick structures, wells and monastery remains spread across the hill.

VF Tip: Combine Bavikonda with Thotlakonda and Bheemili for a history + beach day. 🪷🌊
